Honeywell ZipLine™ is a revolutionary new concept for on-line measurement of flat sheets and films without the cost, size, and complexity of traditional O-frame scanners. 

Traversing on steel cables mounted between the machine frame, or on free-standing support beams, ZipLine occupies a small space, and sensors travel across the web at high speed providing accurate profile measurement. With 90% fewer parts, it offers low cost of ownership and unparalleled value.

ZipLine is the end result of asking a highly talented team of engineers to apply cutting-edge technologies, materials, and design tools to the problem of continually measuring, in both space and time, the physical properties of a moving web or sheet. Their only guidance was that the solution be as simple, cost effective, and reliable as possible, and that it be able to support Honeywell’s existing flat sheet sensors. All aspects of traditional quality control system O-frame scanners were examined and simplified – mechanical design, electronics, communications, manufacturing, shipping, installation and maintenance.

ZipLine replaces the rigid O-frame structure of traditional scanners with tensioned stainless steel cables that support intelligent, self-driven measurement modules. Tensioned cables are also used to supply power and secondary support to the measurement modules. A secure Wi-Fi network provides communication between the measurement modules and the measurement support system, and an onboard compressor provides air to the sensor. These features, in addition to the no water requirement, eliminate the need for a moving power track to manage cables and hoses.

ZipLine measurement modules are capable of scanning at high speeds - up to 400 mm/second - and deliver high resolution basis weight profiles which can be used with the advanced cross-directional profile controls of MXProLine. It can be mounted directly on a machine frame to reduce space requirements, or on freestanding cable-supports as a drop in replacement for existing O-frame scanners. ZipLine uses the same high performance sensors as Honeywell’s traditional flat sheet scanners, and its in-built, web-accessible, diagnostics simplify troubleshooting.

ZipLine lowers the cost of high performance scanning measurement, and does so in a form factor which requires less space, and can be mounted in locations which are not possible with traditional scanners.
